Roll-Off Dumpster Rental in California
In California the first question is not what size. It is what your city allows, because a good share of them decide who may put a box at that address.
This page covers what is specific to California. For container sizing, accepted and prohibited materials and how the rental works, see Roll-Off Dumpster Rental.
Who may deliver, and where the load has to go
Many California cities franchise construction and demolition collection or keep a permitted-hauler list, and some name the facility the material must be taken to. Where that applies, the choice of hauler is partly the city's and the route is fixed. Unincorporated county addresses and many smaller cities have no such rule at all.
This is why we ask for the full address before quoting rather than the ZIP. Two jobs a few miles apart on opposite sides of a city line can carry different rules, different receiving facilities and different paperwork, and the difference shows up on delivery day if nobody checked.
Four miles to the scale, or four hours
The Los Angeles Basin, Orange County, San Diego, the Bay Area and greater Sacramento have the densest transfer station and C&D recycling networks in the country. Short hauls, competitive tonnage rates, and same-day delivery that is realistic on most mornings.
The Sierra counties, the North Coast, the eastern side of the state and the desert run on different arithmetic. Fewer facilities, long hauls, and mountain routes that close or need chains in winter. A 30 yard in Los Angeles County and the same box in Alpine or Modoc County are not the same job for the truck, and we quote them that way instead of publishing one statewide rate we would have to walk back.
Hillsides, clay and the encroachment permit
Access decides more California deliveries than size does. Hillside driveways and narrow hill streets in Los Angeles and the Bay Area set a limit on the truck before they set one on the container, and a long private drive with a tight turn often means a 20 yard where the debris wanted a 30. Tell us what the approach looks like and we will send the box that fits it.
Under the container, Central Valley clay softens once it is wet and foothill decomposed granite shifts when it is dry, so a driveway, a compacted pad or plating beats bare ground. For the street or any part of the public right-of-way you need an encroachment permit from the city, sometimes before the drop rather than after, and in some cities metered spaces have to be released first.

California questions
Do you deliver same-day in California?
Often on calls before about 10am in the LA Basin, Orange County, San Diego, the Bay Area and greater Sacramento. Mountain, North Coast and desert addresses usually need a day because of haul distance.
Why does the price change between California cities?
Tipping fees are set by the receiving facility and vary widely by county, haul distance varies even more, and some cities require the load to go to a named facility. We quote against the scale that will actually take it.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in California?
Not on private property. Street or right-of-way placement needs an encroachment permit from the city, and some cities also want metered parking released. We tell you which applies before delivery.
