Concrete and Asphalt Disposal in Texas

Texas has a strong market for crushed concrete, which means a clean load here prices better than it does in most states.

Crushed concrete has a real market in Texas

Recycled concrete aggregate is used widely as road base across Texas, and TxDOT specifications accommodate it. That demand is why clean concrete tips well below mixed debris in most of the state, and why the gap is worth protecting.

The metros have the most crushing capacity, so Houston, DFW, Austin and San Antonio see the best clean-load rates. In rural counties the nearest crusher may be far enough away that the haul erodes the saving, and we will tell you when that is the case rather than quoting a rate we cannot hit.

Clean fill, TCEQ and what counts as inert

Texas treats clean concrete, brick, rock and soil as inert fill, which is regulated differently from municipal solid waste. Keeping a load genuinely inert is what keeps it in the cheaper stream.

One pallet of broken drywall or a few lengths of 2x4 reclassifies the whole container as mixed debris, and the entire load is then priced at the landfill rate. Keep a second container for the wood. The cost of the extra box is almost always less than the reclassification.

Limestone, caliche and local stone

Much of Central Texas sits on limestone, and demolition here frequently includes stone that is denser than poured concrete. Caliche from West and Central Texas behaves the same way.

The practical effect is that the fill line matters more than usual. Expect roughly 4 to 5 cubic yards before you reach legal haul weight, and expect the driver to hold you to the line. For a large tear-out we schedule swap-outs so the crew never stops.

Sizes we quote in Texas

Same containers statewide. The tonnage allowance behind them is set by the county facility that receives your load.

Dimensions are typical; tonnage allowance is confirmed when you book, because disposal rates differ by county.

Texas questions

Is concrete recycling cheaper in Texas?

Usually yes in the metros, where crushing capacity is close and recycled aggregate has steady demand as road base. In rural counties the haul to the nearest crusher can erode the saving.

Can I mix caliche or dirt with concrete?

No. They go to different facilities. Mixing them means the load is handled as mixed heavy debris and costs more than either separately.

Do you take rebar-reinforced slab?

Yes. Rebar inside the concrete is fine. Steel protruding above the container walls is not, because the load cannot be tarped and so cannot be hauled.

What about concrete washout on a Texas pour?

Washout slurry needs a lined container, not an open roll-off. On commercial sites this is usually a stormwater permit condition, so ask for a washout container by name.
