Concrete and Asphalt Disposal in Florida

Florida builds in block and sits on limestone, so the loads here are denser than they look and the fill line matters more than the volume.

Recycled aggregate has steady demand here

Crushed concrete is used widely as road base across Florida, and that demand is why a clean load tips well below mixed debris in most of the state. The gap is real money on any job producing more than a few tons, and it is worth protecting.

Crushing capacity sits where the construction volume is: Tampa Bay, Orlando, the southeast coast and Jacksonville see the best clean-load rates. In rural counties the nearest crusher may be far enough away that the haul erodes the saving. We will say so rather than quote a rate we cannot hit.

Clean fill, and the one pallet that reclassifies a load

Clean concrete, block, brick, rock and soil are handled as inert material, which is a different and cheaper stream from municipal solid waste. Keeping a load genuinely inert is the whole game.

One pallet of broken drywall, a few lengths of treated lumber, or the packaging off the new fixtures, and the entire container is reclassified as mixed debris and priced at the landfill rate. Keep a second container for the wood. The extra box almost always costs less than the reclassification.

Block, stucco and terrazzo bind the weight early

Florida residential construction is largely concrete block and stucco rather than framing, and the older housing stock is full of terrazzo floors and tile set on thick mortar beds. All of it is dense, and a tear-out produces far more weight per cubic yard than a timber-framed house would.

Pool decks, seawall sections, paver driveways and patio slabs are the other Florida regulars, and they behave the same way. Expect roughly 4 to 5 cubic yards before you reach legal haul weight, expect the driver to hold you to the fill line, and on a large removal let us schedule swap-outs so the crew never stops breaking.

Florida questions

Is concrete recycling cheaper in Florida?

Usually yes in the metros, where crushing capacity is close and recycled aggregate has steady demand as road base. In rural counties the haul to the nearest crusher can erode the saving.

Can I mix sand or soil with the concrete?

No. They go to different facilities. Mixing them means the load is handled as mixed heavy debris and costs more than either stream separately.

Do you take rebar-reinforced slab?

Yes. Rebar inside the concrete is fine. Steel protruding above the container walls is not, because the load cannot be tarped and so cannot be hauled.

What about a pool deck or seawall removal?

Both are ordinary inert loads as long as they stay clean. They are also dense, so plan on a small container with a marked fill line and a swap rather than one large box you will not be allowed to fill.
